Gas Appliance Safety Protector (GASP)IR

to view Gasp-Ir download the brochure

The Gas Appliance Safety Protector (GASP-Ir)from Datalink Technologies is a controller that automatically disconnects an attached appliance from the mains feed at the expiry of a pre-determined time. After disconnection, the appliance will not function until the GASP-Ir is reset by an approved service technician. The time to expire is factory set at 365 days unless specified otherwise. The GASP-Ir is unobtrusive and is ideally mounted in a dual pattress box along with the existing fused spur supply to the appliance thereby removing the need for additional expensive trunking or wiring.

The tenant is warned of impending cut-off in 2 stages:

Stage 1- Expiry warning period, begins typically 28 days before expiry date- The LED in the combined LED/Customer Reset switch begins to flash to attract the Tenant’s attention and advise that a service is imminent.

Stage 2- Customer Reset period, begins typically 14 days before expiry date- The Gasp-Ir cuts off the supply to the appliance. The Tenant may re-instate the supply for a 24-hour period by pressing the Customer Reset button. This may be repeated providing daily reminders to the tenant to contact their Landlord until the full expiry time is reached.

At the expiry date, pressing the Customer Reset button will have no effect- the connected appliance will not function until serviced and the GASP-Ir reset

The GASP-Ir incorporates a 30-day back-up battery to maintain the timer operation during short-term power outages.

Programming and resetting is achieved by Infra-red . A low-cost key-fob is available for simple resetting and full programming control of all functions is available using standard PDAs running Datalink’s proprietary GASP-Ir software. Resetting and reprogramming does not require the GASP-Ir to be removed from the wall.

The GASP-Ir is classified as a Type 1 electronic control with Class A software.

Note:
To ensure CE compliance, the following installation aspects MUST be observed:

1. The GASP-Ir must be installed in an approved pattress box
2. The GASP-Ir must be fed from a switched fused spur
3. All wiring to be in accordance with current I.E.E regulations and performed by a competent contractor

It is recommended that the switched fused spur and the GASP-Ir be mounted in the separate compartments of a 25mm dual pattress box.

Installing the GASP

1. Perform the Earth Loop Impedance test.
2. Isolate the mains supply at the main fuse box
3. Locate the switched fused spur to the boiler
4. Perform Insulation Test and Continuity Test
5. Fit the dual pattress box and refit the switched fused spur to one compartment.
6. Fix the GASP-Ir into the second compartment of the pattress box and connect up to the appliance and switched fused spur according to the supplied wiring details.
7. Move the small jumper from the “Battery-Off” to the “Battery-On” position.
8. Perform Insulation Test
9. Replace the pattress box covers.
10. Re-apply mains power.
11. Reset the Gasp-Ir using either the key-fob or PDA as described below. The GASP-Ir relay will energise supplying power to the appliance.
12. Check the operation of the boiler.
